A mattress like my old two-sided Sealy Posturepedic.

Karen writes:

Hi Pete,

I have been sleeping in my granddaughter's bed, it is a two-sided and flippable Sealy Posturepedic Voyages Plush mattress that is about 15 yrs. old. I LOVE this bed.

It is far better than my own one sided Sealy, which is only 5 yrs. old. What can I buy that is equivalent??
Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen,

As you can tell from what you have, compared to what your granddaughter has, they were much made better 15 years ago.
Sealy doesn't make anything that is nearly the same as that 15 year old Posturepedic.
Using the same coils system as the old Posturepedics, we have two-sided mattresses for you. This one, in particular, should suit you just fine.
It'll be thicker than your granddaughter's mattress, but you'll be just as happy with the comfort and support it provides.
Here's a link to our Therapedic Keepsake Cameo plush…the same mattress our daughter has had for more than 5 years…and still like new.

  1. I presently have a Sealy 1996 Posturepedic Crest Ultra Plush King. I see in your response that a Therapedic Keepsake Cameo Plush Mattress is a good replacement. What is the cost of shipping and the cost for a King size model. Does the price include the box springs as well.

  2. Hi Jerry,
The Cameo was discontinued about a year and a half ago.
You had found an old post.
And, we stopped carrying Sealy when they were purchased by Tempurpedic.
Most of the Sealy line is loaded with memory foam, with the exception of a few models.
Your Sealy mattress has no memory foam.

As an aside: you’ll encounter, when shopping at stores, salespeople who talk about memory foam like it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
Don’t believe it. It’s, in fact, the worst upholstery material ever invented. It’s purpose is to keep the manufacturers from having to make good on warranty claims.
Memory foam always returns to it’s original shape once you get off of the mattress…or close enough to it as to not meet the criteria for exchange authorization.
It loses it’s comfort and support quickly, leaving the consumer with no choice, but to buy a new mattress.
Also, memory foam off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it’s made. Headache is the most common side effect, but much worse has been reported.
Memory foam is where the money is. It’s been a boon for the industry and a nightmare for the consumer.

So, in order to get what you want…or rather, the closest you’ll get to it….is to start with one of the Sealy Posturepedics that haven’t be contaminated with memory foam.

Now, this mattress contains the same coil unit as what you have now, so the support will be the same.

But, it’s a one sided mattress and as such, won’t last as long.
In order to extend the life and to give it that “Ultra Plush” feel, add to this an Ever-Eden 2″ soft Talalay Latex topper.
All natural Latex is, and has been, thee best upholstery material on the planet for the last 100 years.

You’ll love the feel, performance and longevity of this combination.

    Thanks, Pete
