Simmons Beautyrest Mattress and a Latex Topper.

Hi,

My wife and I have been sleeping on a Simmons Beautyrest (not sure which one, but not a pillowtop and pretty firm, and expensive-$3,000) for two years. My wife hates it. We tried a latex topper but found it uncomfortable and hot.

Last week we slept at a Rosewood hotel, and my wife loved the mattress. I called the Simmons guest purchase program and they told me it was a Rosewood Bouvet Island Plush. I noticed in your response to Don (Dec 16, 2013) you said that the plush models are terrible due to shoddy spring wire and you don’t sell them. Now I’m at a loss for what to do. I really need to get a bed that my wife likes. Do you have a recommendation given that she liked that particular bed?

Thank you.

Hi Art,

Many people are confused, when it comes to the various types of foams. So, I hope you don’t mind if I question you further about the topper you bought.

Uncomfortable and hot are characteristics of memory foam, which is easily found at most any store.

Latex, soft latex, is extremely comfortable by all accounts and by its nature, sleeps cool….and almost impossible to find in stores.

Poly and memory foam are solid looking, as opposed to latex, which has hundreds of holes in it.

So, can you tell me if the foam topper you bought was solid or has holes?

When it comes to making a mattress comfortable, nothing does the job like a layer of soft, all natural Talalay Latex.

As you might imagine, I’m skeptical about what you say you have, based on what you’re telling me.

Besides the memory foam in the mattresses and the memory foam toppers, another source of sleeping hot is the mattress protector.

What does your mattress protector look like?

Peter,

Thanks for getting back to me.
We definitely had the solid type, and it was definitely memory foam. We paid about 300 for it and threw it out after 2 weeks.

I guess you’re telling us to try the talalay foam before buying a new mattress. Do you really think that will work?

Thanks, Art

Hi Art,

Yes, it really works…works well, and continues to work for years.

Above are the links to the latex toppers and to the customer feedback concerning them.

Almost all of that feedback is about the 2″ soft Talalay…which is what I recommend for you.

My wife and I have been using this same topper for more than 6 years…and it’s still like new.

The comfort of latex is unique. Zero Gravity is an accurate description of the feel it provides.

And, unlike your memory foam, it’s all natural…no chemicals, no fillers, no synthetics.

It’s been the best upholstery material available for nearly a century.

Conversely, memory foam has proven itself to be the very worst thing ever invented, over the 20 years that the industry has been pushing it.

It’s the difference between what works and what doesn’t.

She’ll love it.

Thanks, Pete
