Simmons Beautyrest World Class Teagan Firm Mattress & a soft latex topper.

Karen writes:

Hi Pete:

Following up on our previous email exchange, I was hoping to get your thoughts on how to handle the below:
I went ahead and bought the Simmons Beautyrest Recharge World Class Luxury Firm at Macy’s (called the Teagan).  After much back and forth b/t that one and the Luxury Firm in the Black Label series (the Ava), I decided for the Teagan.
The Black Label was definitely the more cushion-y of the 2.  The Recharge World Class was nice, comfortable, but not nearly as “cloudlike” as the Black Label.  Even so, while the Black Label felt great, I ultimately decided against it because it reminded me of the bed I was replacing:  a high-end Chatham & Wells) with lots of cushiony topping that – imho – began to “deteriorate” shortly after purchase (meaning body impressions / felt like it was not longer as supportive as before).  So, I was concerned that buying another bed with a similar top (lots of topping) would result in similar issues.
So, I opted for the recharge world class luxury firm.
It arrived last Sunday (so 2 days ago).  Sadly, it feels much much much firmer than the model at Macy’s.  Feels more like an extra-firm than a luxury firm.  Not comfortable.  The opposite thereof.  I’ve woken each morning feeling a bit sore across my shoulder blade area.
Not sure what to do…Do i keep the bed as is for while (i have a 60-day window) and hope it gets a little softer?  Do I keep the bed and get a “topper”? What if the topper doesn’t help?  Do I just exchange it for the Black Label Luxury Firm?  I’m in a bit of a quandary about next steps…Thoughts?
Thanks, Karen!!
Hi Karen,
A brand new mattress will always be firmer than the floor sample.
The poly and memory foams in the mattress will soften quickly…too quickly, and will produce an uneven sleeping surface.
The latex topper will, not only provide extraordinary surface comfort, and last for many years, but because latex is so resilient, it keeps the mattress from wearing out.
The soft Talalay latex topper that we carry, is the softest on the market…having a lower ILD rating than others that are also called “Soft”.
“Help” is all it does, and in so many ways.
My wife and I have a Beautyrest with a 2″ soft latex topper.
The mattress is 4 years old and the topper is 6 years old…both, in like new condition…thanks to the topper.
Trade what you have for a plush model, and you’ll join the ranks of the royally screwed.
Look up, on line, the reviews on Simmons Beautyrest. They are horrible…mostly due to plush and pillowtop models.
Two inches of all-natural Soft Talalay Latex is the only real, and long term solution to your problem. It’s such high quality, that it will more than pay for itself, buy doubling the life of the mattress you use under it.
Read the customer feedback on this page. Almost all of it, is about the 2″ soft Talalay.
