Platform Bed & Mattress from IKEA…Too Firm.

Emma writes:

Hi Pete,

I recently purchased a platform bed & mattress from IKEA. The slatted base with that beam down the middle flexes in such a way that it puts pressure on the mid section of the body causing you to wake up with sore hips. The mattress is extremely hard and I have been unable to get a decent night’s sleep on it. I just replaced a spring mattress from IKEA which felt fine for 4+ years. I bought this combination after seeing it displayed at the store. I did lay on it but the real test is sleeping on it. I spent close to $ 1000 (mattress with arched slatted base) still sleep better on my couch. The flexing issue still causes pain on the hips, by the way I’m a 5’6”, 180 lb female. I am within the 90 day return period and plan to take it back to the store. What should I replace it with. I share the bed with my husband who is 6′ 2″ weighing 200 lbs.

Thanks, Emma
Hi Emma,
There’s no need to replace the mattress. It is providing firm support for your spine, which is the first key component for a good night’s sleep.
All you need to do, now, is soften the surface to relieve your pressure points and relax your muscles.
And that, is easily accomplished with a latex mattress topper. 2″ of soft Talalay Latex is all you’ll need for many years of comfortable sleep.
Latex is all natural and chemical free. Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.
