Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Curvature of the Spine. Latex or Latex Hybrid Mattress.

Renanne writes:

Hello Pete!
I tried flipping my tempur-pedic mattress over and purchased a 2″ pure bliss topper. It is very supportive but too firm and am not sleeping well.
I am considering purchasing a new mattress. Would you recommend all latex? I have been able to locate in my area some models.
I want one that will be very supportive, and good spinal alignment but yet relaxing and comfortable. I do not want to sink!
I know the layers have different ILDs. Can you compare the the nature with the nutrition?
I am a side and back sleeper, have arthritis, fibromyalgia 1, curvature of the spine, female and weigh 145lbs, 5’6″.
I am wanting a good nights rest and just tired of shopping for a mattress as there are so many with memory foam, hybrids with gel and some latex.
It is quite overwhelming and have also found many sales persons can not answer questions as they have not been educated with the knowledge of the mattress industry.
It is a big purchase so I want to make the best decision I can. Thank you!
Renanne

Hi Renanne,

I want to start by pointing out that your size is of great advantage to you. Making it so, this, should be easy.
The primary job of the mattress, is to supply support to the spine. The more pressure you place upon the mattress, the firmer that support needs to be.
Your external issue, the fibromyalgia, requires a soft surface. With you not needing a firm mattress to support your frame, then the mattress won’t be fighting the comfort layers and the comfort layers can be less, because they don’t have to make up for a firm mattress.
As you can imagine, all this becomes a bit more complicated the more weight a body carries…and that weight’s proportion to the height…concerning distribution of the weight.
So, BEST!
“Best”, is akin to the word, “Love”…in that it will mean something different to different people.
In terms of buying a mattress, to me, “Best”, can mean one of 3 things.
1) The best I can buy, regardless of cost. (Best Quality)
2) The best I can buy with the money I have. (Best Value)
3) The best I can buy with the money I have left. (Best Bang for the Buck)
Of course, I’m talking about, the best, which is suited specifically to your needs…in each of those three categories.

The Best is an all latex mattress, without question.
The best model from among them, is the Pure LatexBLISS Beautiful model.

WorldsBestBed - themattressexpert.com
Their Beautiful model is thee most luxurious latex mattress, that still provides adequate support.
I found their World’s Best Bed to have too great a depth of softness. Then again, I’m quite a bit heavier than you.
If considering this model, be sure to find a Pure Bliss retailer, where you can try it.
Your latex topper would, likely, not be needed with either of these models.
FREE White Glove Delivery is included…and no sales tax is charged

The Best Value is also an all latex mattress, although, not as soft as the others…and nowhere near as expensive.
The saving grace is that you already own a latex topper to further soften it.
Made by Ever-Eden, their 9″ model is their softest. It’s made with a Dunlop latex base and is topped with 3″ of Talalay Latex.

Both types of latex are all natural and both are available in soft medium and firm.
For you, I would suggest that both layers are ordered as soft.
FREE UPS delivery to your door…and no sales tax.
The “Best Bang for the Buck” award goes to: The Wolf Company’s Adara model…pocketed coil/latex hybrid.

Wolf is the oldest mattress manufacturer in the US that has been continually owned by the same family…established in 1873
Wolf is a very impressive “One Horse” operation, with a single facility in the Midwest.
The Adara model uses a pocketed coil system, which contours easily to the shape of the body…again, not fighting the efforts of the comfort layers.
This, too, is upholstered with all natural latex. Here again, you can use your topper to soften the surface further.

The Soft Latex Mattress Toppers, (like the one you have, made of soft Talalalay Latex), are the first tool to comforting the pain of Fibromyalgia.
The best tool, because soft latex is more comfortable and much longer lasting than anything else on the planet.
It’s virtually maintenance free. You simply set it and forget it.
And, if you use a waterproof mattress protector over everything, you won’t even have to wash the cover the topper comes in….ever.

Fibromyalgia, left untreated, becomes progressive.
The 2nd tool, should it become necessary, would be a feather topper.

Pacific Coast Luxe Loft Feather Bed Topper
Feather toppers add a tremendous amount of fluffiness to the surface.
A good first choice if you have a maid that will fluff it up for you each day.
A good second choice if you don’t…and for obvious reasons.
In terms of treatment for fibromyalgia, I’ve heard only good things about:
A product called “sam-E”. (not endorsing…just sayin’)
The other is a regular deep tissue massage. I understand that it can be painful to endure, but with positive results.
I’m told that the more you do it, the less painful it becomes and the greater the results.
Moisture from perspiration causes premature wear.
Protect your investment with high quality, Waterproof Mattress and Pillow Protectors that sleep cool and don’t shrink.
Thanks, Pete
