What can you tell me about an old Stearns and Foster set called Knightsbridge. Is it a pillow top?
I actually purchased it from you on 12/8/03.
Basically, it’s been a good bed, but I’m not happy with how it has worn of late and am looking to replace it.
What would you suggest?
My memory is a funny thing, these days. At my age. I’m often amazed at the trivia I remember from years ago and troubled by the things I’ve forgotten.
Your 13 year old mattress has a pillowtop….which was easy to remember, because I had slept one of those mattresses at one time.
Pull the sheets off and you’ll see for yourself if it has a pillowtop. It’s the extra flap above the main body of the mattress.
Since it’s 3 years beyond the manufacturer’s warranty, it doesn’t surprise me that it’s time for a new mattress.
While the over all quality of mattresses has declined over the past 10 years, we do have a way around it.
Latex, the best material available since the 1920s, has made a resurgence in popularity in recent years.
A layer of soft latex on a good firm basic mattress provides the expensive feel of a high end pillowtop, but with much longer lasting results.
Shortening the life of mattresses today is why they are one sided…half the mattress you used to buy.
The prolific use of memory foam, which is the worst material available, and the push to pillowtops by sales people for the “Quick & Easy Sale”, is why today’s mattresses last for such a short period of time.
We frequently recommend the combination of the Simmons Beautyrest World Class Santorini in luxury firm, along with an EverEden 2″ soft Talalay latex topper.
This combination provides excellent support and comfort that lasts for many years….as latex takes a very long time to wear.
Another very popular option today, is the Natura Greenspring line of mattresses….using a pocketed coil, like the Beautyrests, but upholstered with Talalay Latex…eliminating the need for a separate latex topper.
Memory foam is the hyped and pushed product these days. Millions of dollars are spent on telling you that memory foam is what you want, so it is what’s in demand.
However, some of the 61 chemicals, of which it’s comprised, are toxic. The off-gassing from these chemicals attacks the respiratory system, primarily.
And, just to add insult to injury, it performs poorly…doing everything it promises to do, but for a very short time.
The Latex we carry, on the other hand, is all natural 100% Chemical Free.
It does everything that memory foam promises it will do, does it much better, lasts a whole lot longer, and with ZERO negative side effects.
Sleeping on latex provides a unique, zero gravity, feel. It relieves all pressure points and complete muscular relaxation.
