Hi Pete,
I purchased a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress, about 3 months ago. It started causing me back pain right away and after 60 days returned it for the slightly firmer model.
I should also let you know that I loved the feel of the Tempurpedic, I just woke up with pain in my mid/lower back.
I am still having back pain (though not as bad) and was told I only have 10 more days on my trial to return/exchange.
My old bed was a Simmons Beautyrest plush firm which I loved, but after 5 years it had indents and was no longer comfortable.
I have come to the conclusion that I am probably not a memory foam person, but I have no idea what to get now.
I am a side/stomach sleeper (as is my wife) and just want a good comfortable bed. I like a soft bed, but after this Tempurpedic experiment, I think I also need some firmness.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. At this point I think I will be returning my Tempurpedic.
It has been about 35 days on the new one, but I do not want to be stuck with a 3,000+ bed that is not comfortable.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ken
Hi Ken,
Memory foam is seductively comfortable, initially, which is why so many are sold.
What you like and what your body likes can be two different things.
What is there to love about something that causes you pain?…which is why so many are returned.
Memory foam is temperature sensitive…softening as it warms from your body heat…allowing the heaviest parts of you to sink and mis-aligning your spine…causing pain.
Return that for a refund. Between the cost of what I recommend and what you paid for that Tempurpedic, you can go on a vacation.
The individually pocketed coils of the Simmons Beautyrest provides excellent support for your spine. But, they don’t last very long…as you’ve experienced.
The steel, from which their coils are made, is raw steel and not tempered. The upholstery is, primarily, memory foam.
Together, they cause the consumer to need a replacement every few years.
What I recommend is also an individually pocketed coil…using double tempered steel coils and upholstered with natural latex.
Latex is and has been thee best upholstery material for the last 100 years….nothing new, just good old fashioned quality that lasts for many years.
The line of mattresses is the Natura Greenspring, made in Canada. My wife and I sleep on one and it is the best mattress we’ve home tested over the years.
There are 5 models in the line. The Liberty Plush Eurotop is the most comfortable of the 5.
