Simmons Beautyrest Plush Pillowtop Mattress Sags.

Saul writes:
Hello Peter,
In January, I purchased a Simmons Beautyrest plush pillowtop mattress, which has never been comfortable.
It sags, sloping at the sides and has body impressions.
Can you recommend a plush mattress that will keep its shape??
I don’t want one that’s too firm. I would also like something that sleeps cooler. This one sleeps a little hot.
Thanks, Saul
Hi Saul,
If you were to look on our website, at our selection of Simmons Beautyrests, you’ll notice that there are no plush or pillowtop models offered.
I, simply, will not take an order for those. Potential customers, who insist on buying what you bought, must do so elsewhere.
If you were to have looked at reviews for Simmons Beautyrests, you would have found them to be horrible.
The reason why the reviews are so bad, is because of all the Plush and Pillowtop models sold.
Salespeople, at stores, love to make the easy sale. Consumers love to indulge themselves by buying luxurious feeling mattresses….
….and both do so with no regard to support or quality. The salespeople, simply, don’t care…and the consumer assumes quality that isn’t there…as you did.
The steel used to make the coils in a Simmons Beautyrest, is raw steel…not tempered.
The coils used to make a Plush Beautyrest, are made of very thin gauge wire….thicker and heavier in their firmer models.
And, just to make matters worse, the upholstery in the mattress and pillowtop, is memory foam…thee absolute worst upholstery material ever invented.
A plush and/or pillowtop Beautyrest almost always end up with a complaint…something I do not want my customers to suffer.
So, when we do recommend a Simmons Beautyrest, we recommend a firmer model…usually a Luxury Firm…without a pillowtop.
In doing so, I know my customers will have better and longer lasting support for their spines.
To achieve the surface softness that most people want, adding an EverEden All Natural 2″ Soft Talalay Latex topper to it…in lieu of the pillowtop.
All Natural, Chemical Free Latex, is and has been thee best upholstery material for the last 100 years.
It provides surface softness that is much more comfortable than anything else you can use.
Latex is, also, extremely resilient…retaining its initial comfort for many years.
Because latex is so resilient, it absorbs much to all of your body weight, which greatly extends the life of the mattress.
And, all natural latex sleeps cool…insulating you from the memory foam in the mattress, which sleeps hot.
The mattress we recommend, for adult use, is the Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Sandy Springs in Luxury Firm.

Soften the surface of a too firm mattress. Insulate yourself from the memory foam in your mattress to Sleep Cool. Extend the comfort life of your mattress.

Thanks for all that information, Pete. But, I have to object to needing to buy a separate latex topper for a brand new mattress. I feel like I shouldn’t have to do that.

Doesn’t Simmons make a mattress that will hold up well, without the additional purchase of a latex topper?

Thanks, Saul

Hi Saul,

In short, no…they don’t.

Your objection is a common one…most heard from men.

And, I agree…you shouldn’t have to.

But, the fact remains, if you are buying a name brand mattress, you’re buying a mattress upholstered with memory foam.

If you don’t compensate for that with a latex topper, you’ll end up with a mattress that is designed to need frequent replacing.

Under those circumstances, the latex topper more than pays for itself.

But, like I said, I agree with you. You shouldn’t have to. Their use of low quality components makes it necessary.

The only way around this, is to buy a mattress made of high quality components…eliminating the need for a separate latex topper purchase.

To over come your objection…as well as my own, concerning the name brands steadily lowering the quality of their mattresses, we went shopping.

We have spent countless hours at the trade shows…looking for and finding high quality alternatives to what the name brands are offering.

Over the years, we have home tested a number of different brands and types of mattresses.

(My wife and I are excellent test cases. Each of us is approx 225 lbs. I have lots of disc related back problems and my wife has a sore hip.)

So, when we test a mattress, it’s for durability under our weights…support for my back…and comfort for my wife’s hip.

Instead of buying a Simmons Beautyrest, let me suggest to you the mattress we sleep on at home.

Natura of Canada Greenspring uses the same pre-compressed individually pocketed coils that you’ll find in the Simmons Beautyrest.

The differences are:

  • A higher coil count
  • Coils made of double tempered steel
  • Natural Talalay Latex upholstery….and containing NO Memory Foam.
We’ve had our for more than 15 months. It shows zero signs of wear…not even the slightest body impression…even under our weights.
There are 5 models in the line. The Plush EuroTop is the most comfortable of them…and our most popular model.
We have sold hundreds of them, over the years…and with zero complaints from anyone who has purchased one.
It does NOT Sleep Hot….and, no additional purchase of a separate latex topper is needed.
