Replacing an 18 Year Old Sealy Posturepedic Mattress.

Ken writes:
Hello Pete!
It’s time to replace our 18 year old king-size Sealy Posturepedic mattress.
I am very tall at 6’5″ and heavy at around 300 lbs.  My wife is very petite at 5’3″ tall and about 130 lbs.
When we first bought this mattress, we were very diligent about flipping and rotating at every sheet change.
We had kids and they certainly slept with us…not every night, but frequently.
As the years passed and the bed had kiddo “accidents” in it (despite a series of mattress pads).
We just gave up on flipping and now only rotate 2x per year.  TIme for a replacement.

My wife and I have the following wish list:
1) She wants something plush and soft – she is somewhat cold natured and small;
2) I want something firm and very supportive – I am very hot natured and tall/big;
3) We are both side sleepers.
We have had the opportunity to sleep on a memory foam mattress for several nights and have ruled that type of mattress out.
It’s too conforming and VERY hot for me, she feels like it was swallowing her.
I do not want an air mattress – the mechanical pump just something else to break.
I’ve slept on an adjustable air mattress, half a dozen nights; not bad, not good…just not that impressed.
We have upgraded our pillows and found ones we really like, so that issue has been solved.
Any thoughts on a two sided mattress, maybe an innerspring mattress with plenty of beefiness for me, but soft for my wife?
Or even two different mattress toppers – one for my wife’s side and one for me.
Many thanks for any advice, Ken
Good Morning Ken,

It will be impossible to buy one mattress that will satisfy both of you.
This is true for most couples, so we have a way around it.
First and foremost, the mattress has to hold up under a big man.
Then, we add a latex topper to soften the surface for your wife.
The toppers also come in twin-xl size, which allows you to use a different density latex on each side, if necessary.
Also, latex foam is all-natural rubber and extremely resilient.
Besides adding surface comfort, it extends the life of any mattress you use with it, as the latex will absorb much of your body weight.

The mattress that I have for you is two-sided…old fashioned quality…not unlike your old Sealy Posturepedic.
Flipping a mattress is more important in the early years to help the padding to settle evenly….
…Once a month for the 1st year, and once a season (4x a year thereafter).

The Tulah Luxury Firm is the one I’m recommending for you.

Soften the surface of a too firm mattress. Insulate yourself from the memory foam in your mattress to Sleep Cool. Extend the comfort life of your mattress.

The softest is the EverEden 3″ Soft Talalay Latex Topper, which works best for petite females.

The EverEden 3″ Medium Vytex Dunlop Latex Topper is the one I recommend for your half of the mattress.
You’ll order each is Twin-XL…which equals a king size.
Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.

Thanks, Pete
