Hi Pete,
I’m glad I found your blog. Loads of great information. Thanks for all of it. I recently bought a mattress from one of those large chain stores that you aren’t so fond of, and I can see why.
First off, their price was much higher than yours. Oh well, too late to do anything about that.
My problem is with the mattress protector they sold me and told me I had to have. It’s waterproof, and I get why its important, but the darn thing makes me sweat. It one of the ones that is covered in a terry cloth material, made by Protect-A-Bed. Is there anything I can do about this? How do I protect the mattress without burning up?
Thanks in advance, Jill
Hi Jill,
I’ll get to the mattress protector in a minute.
First about the price. If your purchase was recent, you may be able to take advantage of the their price guarantee. Show them my price and insist that they refund the difference…or you’ll put this on blast for all to see.
The problem you face with your mattress protector is common among waterproof types…and, especially that brand.
A few years ago, we came across a mattress protector that caught my interest at the trade show. They were kind enough to give me one to try at home…and so I did.
This particular mattress protector is made of all natural materials. It’s generously cut, waterproof on the top and sides, machine washable in hot water, dust mite and allergy proof. The best part is that the fabric is infused with silver, which is supposed to sleep cool….and it does. We laundered it several times, with no shrinkage…and easily fits our 15″ mattress with room to spare…designed to fit up to 18″ and fits snugly. The best part is that it sleeps cool….from the perspective of someone who gives off a lot of body heat. It is, without a doubt, thee very best mattress protector I have ever seen or used. You can buy one, directly from the manufacturer…Danican
