Hi Pete,
I noticed you talk about how negative memory foam mattresses are, on your blog.
But then I’ve seen you recommend the Simmons Beautyrest models which actually do have memory foam.
So aren’t you being a bit contradictory?
Or are there some details which I have missed that you can clarify for me?
Thanks, Anon
Hello Anon, (How brave!)
Yes. There are details that you’ve missed….more like selectively didn’t read!
1) All recommendations for adult using Beautyrests, also include a recommendation adding a latex topper.
The comfort of a latex topper doesn’t fade and it extends the life of the mattress.
2) The memory foam used by Simmons is different than regular memory foam.
It is less temperature sensitive and a bit more resilient.
And unlike regular memory foam, there is no chemical off gassing.
3) The coil unit is important for maintaining proper spinal alignment.
There are plenty of pocketed coil units from various brands.
However, the Simmons coils are taller than the pocket.
They pre-compress a 9″ coil into a 7″ pocket for greater resiliency.
Also, the coil is barrel shaped for movement that doesn’t interfere with the other coils.
Also, the pockets are heat sealed at the center for true independent movement.
Simmons is the original manufacturer of this coil system…since 1925.
This coil unit, along with the better grade of memory foam, and the latex topper that must go with it…combine to produce one of the better choices a consumer can make.
I’ve explained all this in many ways, on many of those blog posts.
But, it’s all worth repeating….especially for those with selective reading disorder!
