Hi Pete,
I’m a 78 old male, 160 lbs.
I have osteoarthritis and a replaced knee, (14 years ago), also a rebuilt ankle.
Mostly, I sleep on my side and am now sleep on a Serta pillowtop mattress that has lasted only 2 years.
(which I find disgraceful, given my size).
What does the expert recommend for me to buy, (up to $1400 in queen).
The present mattress leaves deep body impressions.
Thanks for a reply, John
Hi John,
Walking into a mattress store is not unlike walking into a minefield.
The store is full of mattresses that will cause you pain…if not physical, certainly financial.
The two things to avoid are the two things most commonly sold…memory foam and pillowtops.
These products lose their shape, much too quickly.
They are also the products that lure you in because they are seductively comfortable.
That comfort, as you have experienced, is short lived…making them a “worst buy”.
At 160 pounds, weight is not an issue….or shouldn’t be.
You don’t have to concern yourself with finding a mattress that will hold up to the weight of a large person.
A good quality, basic mattress, is all you need and it doesn’t have to cost all that much.
Here a link to an old fashion, two-sided, flippable mattress that has no memory foam in it and clearly, a “best buy”.
Shipping is free and there’s no sales tax.
