Hi Pete,
I see the Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Gibson Grove LF, that you often recommend.
And, we’ve seen another Simmons Beautyrest Platinum model with different “Comfort Material” layer,
and with 1.5″ nano coils instead of just foam.
So what is the difference and what is best? 5’10” 160 lbs, 5’2″ 170 lbs
We were recommended the Simmons Beautyrest Black Series L-Class, LFPT.
My wife is having to pick out the mattress, while I am unable to move to our new house for a few months.
Reading the blog it appears we don’t need a Black, and definitely not a pillowtop.
What’s the best choice?
Thanks, Brian
Hi Brian,
There’s no shortage of bad advice to be had, out there.
Pillowtop mattresses would be one such bad choice, as the pillowtop part wear quickly.
The Simmons Beautyrest Black is the strongest of all the Beautyrests.
It uses a triple strand wire in every other row of coils.
We recommend these for heavier people. It’s more mattress than you need…and way more than you need to spend.
For the two of you, I would suggest the Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Gibson Grove in luxury firm.
Add to that, a Pure Bliss 2″ or 3″ Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper to go on it.
The latex topper replaces the pillowtop, and is far more resilient, far more comfortable, and a whole lot longer lasting than the memory foam in the pillowtop.
The extra layers of nano coils is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, with no real value to the consumer.
That marketing ploy has been introduced, discontinued, and reintroduced many times, over the past decades.
It’s useless…adding to the premature wear of the mattress.
