Hi Pete,
My boyfriend and I are considering a Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Plush Pillow Top mattress.
The purchase price for a king size, in the Dallas, TX area is $1999 on “sale”.
I haven’t been able to find much info online for this particular model.
I see you advise against Simmons pillow tops in favor of luxury firms latex toppers.
Can you give us the lowdown on this mattress style?
Is it a current model or discontinued?
Is the salesman selling us a high priced dream? This would be my first Simmons.
We both liked the feel of the mattress in our short test of it, compared to others we tried,
He wants something softer while I want comfortable support.
We are both between 225-250 lbs and don’t have back issues.
My boyfriend is ready to pull the trigger but I’m cautious, considering the price.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks, Nikki 🙂
Hi Nikki,
You sound like you are reasonably new to the mattress buying process.
It’s a very good thing that you checked with me before pulling the trigger on that.
The mattress that you’re considering will need to be replaced in less than a year, at your body weights.
Salespeople tend to take the path of least resistance.
A Plush Pillowtop is easy to sell, as it’s initial comfort is very nice.
Most salespeople don’t know or care if it’s right for you.
Even going with a firmer Platinum and adding a latex topper, while much better, is not an ideal choice for your sizes.
My wife and I are large people, also…and very similar in size to the two of you.
My recommendation for you would be the Simmons Beautyrest Black L-Class in medium firm,
and a Pure Bliss 2″ or 3″ Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper to go on top of that.
The Black models use a triple strand wire coil in every other row of coils and is the strongest Beautyrest on the market…a necessary choice at your weights.
Here are the link to the mattress and the latex toppers.
We can’t deliver a Beautyrest to Texas, but you can use my webpage to negotiate price locally.
The latex topper arrives via UPS. Shipping is free and there’s no sales tax.
