The Right Mattress to Relieve Back Pain.

Brad writes:
Hello Peter,

I’ve been trying to find the right mattress to relieve back pain.
I am 7 feet tall and 220#s. I share my bed with my wife who is 5 6 and 120#.
I sleep on my back and side and she just sleeps on her sides.
On the wrong mattress, I can overheat at night.

I had been using the bed my parents bought for me  almost 20 years ago.
My back pain has been getting worse and worse so I decided it’s time to get a new bed.

A year ago, after much research I ordered a firmer wink mattress, thinking that if it’s too firm,
I’ll just get the step down. I got it and it was just really uncomfortable until I exchanged it for a luxury firm model at the end of my trial period.
However its a year later and my back still hurts terribly every time I wake up.

The firmer bed was just way too hard and the luxury firm was just too soft.
I’ve had some good experiences at holiday inn hotels with their plush westbury mattresses.
I’ve also had good experiences with a cheap twin bed in college.

Do you have a recommendation on the right bed given my previous purchases and experiences?
Best, Brad
Hi Brad,

The problem with your mattress…the reason why your back continues to hurt, is much less about the degree of firmness and all about the memory foam upholstery.
Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens as it warms from your body heat.
Memory foam is specially designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.
Memory foam is the absolute worst upholstery material ever invented.
Most hotel mattresses, your old mattress and your college mattress had no memory foam in it.
A pocketed coil mattress upholstered with latex, is far more resilient, much longer lasting and sleeps cool…while memory foam tends to sleep hot.
The mattress my wife and I have at home, will work for you, as well.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush is my recommendation.
Despite the comfort designation of “Ultra Plush”, this mattress is in no way too soft.
The double tempered steel coils and latex upholstery provide excellent support, comfort and longevity.
Here is a link to that mattress.
White glove delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.
Delivery includes set up and removal of your old mattress.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.
Shown here, are 2 quality models from which to choose.

Thanks, Pete
