A New Mattress for NO Back Pain.

Erica writes:
Hi Pete,

Thank you for all the information provided on your website.
I’m hoping to get your recommendation for a mattress for my husband and I.

My husband is 5′-9″ (160lbs) and I’m 5′-2″ (125 lbs).
My husband has had consistent lower back pain for some time.
And I wake in the middle of the night, occasionally.

We have had a memory foam mattress since 2013.
And after reading information on your website, I feel foolish.
We are both in our mid 30s.
He is back and side sleeper, and I sleep mostly on my side and sometimes my stomach.
I typically like a softer feel. My husband’s only preference is no back pain.

Before meeting my husband, he had slept on double stacked twin mattresses from 1985.
He said he had no back pain. It sounds strange to me, but hey, whatever works.

I’m hoping to stay around $2k or less.

I’m open to any recommendations: all latex, coil/latex hybrid, or coil spring with topper.

Thank you for your time.
Erica
Hi Erica,
At your sizes, an expensive mattress is not necessary.
Also not necessary, is a new foundation.
Memory foam mattresses use a solid foundation that doesn’t wear out.

My top pick for his back and your comfort, is the Wolf Hybrid Tulah Mattress.

Wolf Tulah Latex Hybrid Mattress

As you can see, it’s a lot less than you’re expecting to spend.
The individually pocketed coils contour to the shape of the body and maintain the natural alignment of the spine.

It’s this support that will relieve your husband’s back pain.
The Tulah is a bit softer at the surface…a better choice than the Adara model for your comfort.
Despite the reasonable price, these mattresses are very well made.
The coil count is good and the steel used to make the coils is double tempered for added durability.

At your max price range, is the mattress we sleep on at home.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush.

This mattress is better made, using higher quality upholstery materials and has a higher coil count.

It, too, has an individually pocketed coil system, also made of double tempered steel.
My wife and I are considerably heavier than the two of you.
And while necessary for us, it’s not for the two of you.

The Natura mattress comes with white glove delivery and removal of the old mattress.
The Wolf mattress arrives via ups.
The difference in the delivery service between the two, is the only reason you might have for opting for the Natura mattress.

I recommend flipping your mattress over and making your decision tomorrow.
The underside of a memory foam mattress is high density poly foam, not memory foam.
If his back is noticeably better, then all you need do, is soften the surface.
This is best accomplished with a Pure Bliss 3” Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper.

Going with the latex topper should give you another few years on your current mattress.
The Wolf mattress should last in excess of 10 years…at your sizes.

The Natura mattress will, likely, last about 15-20 years.

All options come with free delivery and there’s no sales tax.

We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
