Good day Pete,
After a lot of internet searching, I landed on your informative website.
Please advise a replacement for Sealy Posturepedic Crown Jewel Dual Support mattress.
Our 2 guest bedrooms had these mattresses and almost every guest asked me for the brand info!
Even though it was purchased in 2001, it was still in new shape despite monthly guests for several nights or a week.
Our house had smoke damage from the Woolsey fires, so we need to replace both sets.
Please advise a good specification for quality mattress that is reasonably priced for occasional use.
Shipping to Los Angeles.
Thanks and regards, Melissa
Hi Melissa,
It’s a pity about losing them in a fire. They were exceptionally well-made mattresses.
There is nothing on the market that is like them, today….and least of all, from Sealy.
Sealy was sold to Tempur-Pedic in 2013. Now, all Sealy mattresses are upholstered with memory foam.
Your mattresses had no memory foam in them, which is why they performed so well, for so long.
We carry a few mattresses that are, both, well made and reasonably priced…none upholstered with memory foam.
The least expensive is an old-fashioned two-sided mattress that is available in duo-comfort.
(plush on one side, firm on one side).
Here is a link to those:

From the same company, The Tulah One-Sided Hybrid Mattress has a stronger coil unit and includes latex in the upholstery.
This mattress is both, more supportive and comfortable.

As you look through these links, you’ll notice that they are sold as mattress only…not as a set.
There are a couple of good options for you, concerning a foundation for these mattresses.
1) The Basic Black Platform Bed provides the support you need and offers storage space….and reasonably priced.

2) For a more traditional look…(Box spring and steel bed frame),
there’s no cheaper place to buy those things than at Costco.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.
Thanks, Pete
