A New Mattress to Replace an Old Sealy Posturepedic with Deep Body Indentations and a Hump in the Middle.

Hi Pete,

I’m in the market for a new King size mattress.
This is to replace an 11 year old Sealy Posturepedic cushion firm mattress with deep body indentations.
(although, just shy of 1.5 inch deep), and the hump in the middle.

I see you suggest that to prevent the hump, to turn the king mattress sideways or to put it on the floor.
My partner is 6 ft, so sideways may not be the best option.

What do you think about buying 2 extra long twin mattresses and putting them together to form a King?
We could then top it with a latex topper to make it feel like one bed.

Would that prevent both the indentation and hump problems?
Also, if we went with a standard King mattress with 2″ latex topper, would we still expect to experience indentations?

Thank you! I hope you are safe and healthy.
Warmly, Leah
Hi Leah,

Thank you. We are safe and reasonably healthy…given our ages and conditions.
I hope you and yours are, as well.
A mattress is an upholstered product.
Body impressions are the nature of the beast.
Minimizing them is the best you can hope to accomplish.
The quality of the upholstery material is key.
Latex, (not coming out of China), is the most resilient.
High quality poly foam, like that used in your mattress is good but not as good, in terms of resiliency.
Memory foam is the worst…regardless of the level of quality.
Memory foam is used in all of today’s brand name mattresses…and many others.
It’s used to maximize profits, which also minimizes quality.
Two Twin-XL mattresses cost more than a king.
And still, the center of the mattress will remain like new while body impressions form on either side.
Two Twin-XL mattresses are an option when using adjustable bed bases, or when there’s a dramatic difference in desired comfort levels.
A Standard King is almost square, 76” x 80”, and is the only size where a 1/4 turn rotation is possible…something my wife and I do with our mattress every 3 months.
We also use a Pure Bliss latex topper, which absorbs most to all of our body weight.
This prevents the mattress from wearing prematurely.
The mattress we have is designed to last under our weights, each over 200 lbs.
Our Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress is almost 5 years old, and still in like new condition.

We recommend using an Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress, and reduce body impressions.
Everything we offer comes with free delivery and no sales tax.

Thanks, Pete
