20 Year Old Simmons Beautyrest World Class Baymont Plush Equivalent Mattress.

Jim writes:

Pete,

Good morning.  I’ve been reading your site and I’ve got a mattress question for you.
I have a Simmons Beautyrest World Class Baymont Plush, king-sized, that I’ve owned for almost 20 years.
It’s finally worn out and in need of replacement. Can you tell me what today’s equivalent is?
It’s been the best mattress I’ve ever owned and I’d like to replicate it as much as reasonably possible.
Thank you, Jim
Hi Jim,
There is no equivalent.
Simmons, along with all of the major brands, has been sold to investors.
20 years ago, it was nearly impossible to buy a bad mattress.
Today, just the opposite is true.

I can recommend a mattress that is similarly made to Simmons Beautyrest.
The type of coil system is the same. The type of support is the same.
The differences are:
The coil count is higher and the coils are stronger than in any Simmons mattress.
The upholstery material is natural Talalay Latex.
Simmons uses memory foam.

There is no memory foam in your mattress.

For a mattress that you will enjoy as much and for as long, is:
Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush.

White glove delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.

Delivery includes set up in your bedroom and removal of your old mattress set.

Hey Pete,
Man, what a bummer! Thank you for getting right back to me, though – much appreciated.

The Natura of Canada Greenspring is little more than I wanted to spend, to be honest.
It’s probably worth it, given how rarely one buys one.

If I bought it from you, you could have it delivered to my home in Michigan?
Any reason not to use the box spring that I’ve been using with the old Simmons?
Thanks, Jim
Hi Jim,

I’m afraid you can’t use your old box springs.
They are worn and would cause premature wear to any mattress you buy.
And, that will immediately void the warranty.
Your best choice at a reasonable price comes in two steps.
1) Pick up a new box spring at Costco or Sam’s Club.
They are different brands, but same quality…Costco has Sealy…Sam’s has Serta.
This is thee cheapest place to buy a box spring.
2) The Wolf Hybrid Tulah or Adara mattress.
      Shown here:
While not the same exalted quality of the Natura, they are a whole lot higher quality than anything Simmons makes today
The major trade offs are:
UPS delivery and no matching box spring available.
And, you’ll have to dispose of your old set.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
