Hi Pete,
I am looking into getting a new mattress due to me frequently waking up with lower back pain.
I know absolutely nothing about mattresses, so I would love some guidance.
As mentioned, I wake up with lower back pain, and I am a belly sleeper.
I am unsure if I prefer a firm mattress over a soft mattress.
(I believe the one I have now might be in between (leaning more on the soft side though).
Is there a type of mattress that you recommend?
I do tend to be on the hotter side, so I would need a mattress that is also known for staying cool.
If you can guide me in anyway here, I would greatly appreciate it.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks, Gaby
Hi Gaby,
Most of today’s mattresses are upholstered with memory foam, which is thee component you must avoid.
Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens as it warms from your body heat.
As it softens, you sink into it, which throws off the natural alignment of your spine.
This is especially disastrous for a stomach sleeper…causing the lower back to bend backwards, making lower back pain to become much more severe.
The very first thing for you to do, is to flip your mattress over.
The underside is much firmer and contains no memory foam.
Your back will feel much better tomorrow morning, with increased improvement over the next few days.
If that produces the desired result for back pain, but is too firm to sleep on comfortably, then all you need to buy is a latex topper.
Latex is and has been thee best upholstery material available for the last 100 years.
It is the polar opposite of memory foam in performance and quality.
If the latex topper is all you need, I recommend the EverEden Vytex Dunlop 2″ or 3″ in Soft.
As a stomach sleeper, the 2″ is all you need. If you spend any time sleeping on your side, then the 3″ will work better.
Latex provides the unique feeling of floating, as it holds you up and doesn’t allow you to sink.
Here is a link to those Latex Toppers:

100% All-Natural Vytex Dunlop Latex Mattress Toppers. Ever-Eden’s Vytex Dunlop is, virtually, Allergen Free. And while the Vytex Dunlop comes in the same 2 choices of comfort levels, Dunlop is a more dense material and does not have as supple a feel as the Talalay Latex Toppers.

If it turns out that you need a new mattress, the Wolf Hybrid Tulah or Adara mattresses will do the job.
The individually pocketed coils maintain the natural alignment of your spine, which will relieve your back pain.
These mattresses have NO Memory Foam in them.
The Adara for a stomach or back sleeper, the Tulah for a side sleeper.

Shipping is free and there’s no sales tax.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.
Thanks, Pete
