What’s the Best Quality Mattress?

James writes:
Hi Pete,
We had been sleeping on a Stearns and Foster mattress for many years, and we very happy with it.
Last year, when it came time to buy a new mattress, we bought another Stearns and Foster.
We didn’t think about it or research it, we just assumed that a new one would be just as good.
As you know, it isn’t.
It’s now several months old and has already lost the support and comfort it had when it was new.
We wake up in pain and the quality of our sleep has diminished, greatly…compared to our old S&F.
So, we got on the computer and started researching to find out what happened.
After a little while, we came across your blogs.
Now, I know, too. Thank you for all your good information.
I only wish I had known before we bought, what you describe as, “expensive junk”.
I never would have guessed that such a high quality brand, as S&F had once been, could take such a sharp nosedive.

We need a new mattress.
From what I’ve read, we can continue to use our foundation. So we will need just the mattress.
I would love to get the 15 years I got from my old S&F mattress again, if that’s possible.
So I ask you, “What is the best quality mattress?”.
Thanks, James
Hi James,
You may have read that we used to be a Sealy/S&F retailer. We had been for many years. It was all we sold.
Sealy was good quality at a reasonable price. S&F was top-line stuff.
They were all we needed to provide our customers with a great night’s sleep at any price point.
When Tempurpedic bought Sealy/S&F in 2013, that all changed.
Now that they are all upholstered with memory foam, they are nothing more than expensive junk.
Memory foam is the absolute worst upholstery material ever invented…contrary to all the advertising hype.
I’m sorry that you had to learn that for yourself, first hand…the hard way.
While shopping at the industry trade shows, we were able to find quality substitutions for those brands.
Wolf took the place of Sealy.
Wolf is the oldest mattress manufacturer in the country that has been continually owned and operated by the same family.
The Wolf family established their brand in 1873, and have been working from the same plant ever since.
Natura of Canada Greenspring is the line of mattresses that we subbed for S&F.
They are the best quality mattresses I could find, bases on specifications.
We bought their Ultra Plush model for home testing.
We’ve had that mattress for 5 years, now.
And despite our heavy body weights, (each of us over 200 lbs.), our mattress is still in like new condition.
I have a variety of disc related back problems. Despite these problems, I sleep and wake with NO Back Pain.
THIS, would be the mattress I’d recommend for anyone looking for high quality.
Here is a link to that line of mattresses, with the Ultra Plush being the most comfortable of the 4 models in that line.

This mattress comes with white glove delivery, which includes removal of your old mattress.

Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.

We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
