A Large Man on an Old Simmons Beautyrest World Class Mattress.

Ken writes:
Hi Pete,
First of all, thank you for your responses to our questions about our older Simmons Beautyrest World Class mattress.
I was wondering if you could tell us what the firmness level of it is?
It has been used in a spare bedroom for numerous years . We went King size about 10 years ago.
We currently have a Stearns and Foster, about 4 years old. But, are not happy with it.
My wife and I are seniors, I am a large man, almost 300 lbs. My wife about 170. We are both mostly, side sleepers.
We know we don’t want any mattress with memory foam!
Can you, please, recommend a mattress for us?
Thanks, Ken
Good Morning, Ken.

Knowing the firmness designation of your mattress isn’t going to help you.
In fact, it may even be misleading.
Back then, you could buy a plush pillowtop Beautyrest and it would last.
If you look at reviews for Simmons Beautyrest, online, you’ll find they are horrible.
Most of what is sold is a plush or plush pillowtop, as those are the most comfortable, initially.
But with today’s Beautyrests having nothing but memory foam, the results are disastrous.
When new, there would have been a paper label denizened to the side of the mattress, telling the firmness level of that mattress.
There may be the “white law label” still attached to one of the seams at the head of the mattress.
That label may have that information.
The key for you, now, is in finding a mattress that is strong enough to hold a man your size and still be comfortable…like your pillowtop is. What to look for, is quality components.
We carry a mattress that will work for you….the same one we sleep on at home.
This mattress has an individually pocketed coil unit, like the Beautyrest you’ve enjoyed.
The differences are:
A higher coil count with stronger coils, made of double tempered steel.
(Simmons has always used raw, non-tempered steel).
What’s more the upholstery is natural latex, which is far more resilient than memory foam and even more resilient than the poly foam in your current mattress.
My wife and I are, each, over 200 lbs.
Our mattress is 5 years old and shows no signs of wear…not so much as a dent in it.
That mattress is The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush.
It is not too soft, due to the high quality of the components.
Here is a link to that mattress:

White Glove Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.
Delivery includes set-up in your bedroom and removal of your old mattress/set.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
