A Mattress to Relieve Fibromyalgia Pain.

Alice writes:
Hi Pete,
I am suffering with fibromyalgia, and am having a difficult time sleeping.
Is there a mattress that will relieve the pain?
I’ve tried memory foam, which they said will help. It did, at first, but that relief didn’t last long.
I am an average size, middle aged female. My husband is average size, also, but has no physical problems.
Can you help me?
Thanks, Alice
Hi Alice,
While there is no mattress specifically designed to address fibromyalgia, a common sense approach will help you.
Your ailment is a surface problem. Even so, your body’s core still requires reasonably firm support.
It’s the surface of the mattress that needs to be soft…but made soft with products that wear well.
That you and your husband are not heavy, is a plus for you…in that the firm support can be gentler.
So, the first thing is the mattress. A mattress that provides that gentle support is a Simmons Beautyrest.
The Beautyrest coils are made of raw steel, not tempered steel, which means they aren’t as strong.
While not the mattress to buy for durability, the weaker coils work in your favor.
I recommend the Silver Series Beautyrest in Medium Firm

To soften the surface, add a Pure Bliss 3″ Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper, like the ones shown here:
Latex is the most resilient upholstery material available.
The comfort it provides is extraordinary and remains like new for many years.
For most people with fibro, this is all that is needed.
If your fibro is advanced, you will also need to add a synthetic down comforter top.
I recommend getting that at Bed, Bath & Beyond….or any store with a liberal return policy.
We start with a latex topper because it is maintenance free…just set it and forget it.
The comforter top will require continual fluffing to retain its soft feel.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
