Why does my new mattress seem different than the one in the store?

Hi Jane,
Why it feels different depends on the difference.
Commonly, a new mattress will feel firmer than the floor sample in the store.
The floor sample has loosened up from being tried so often. A new mattress is still tight.
But with so many stores offering a comfort guarantee, you could have received a mattress that someone else had in their home and returned for exchange or refund.
The factories don’t participate in these comfort guarantees, so the retailer can’t send them back for credit.
Some will put the returned mattresses on the floor and sell them off as floor sample closeouts.
Some will return those mattresses to stock and sell them as new to the next customer who comes along.
As illegal as that is, it happens frequently….as there is no one policing this industry.
If the mattress you received is softer, this is likely the reason why.
A third reason is you didn’t get the mattress you bought, which happens from time to time.
We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
