Hi Pete,
We have a 2010 Simmons HMB TT Beautyrest WC Cape Horn Plush Firm Mattress.
It is toast, but we don’t have the money to replace it.
The cushioning material on the top has collapsed, and it is hard.
Would placing a 2” latex topper on it help until we can save up for a replacement?
Then we could place the 2” pad on the new non-pillow top mattress to extend its life as you have suggested.
Thanks, Roger
Hi Roger,
Support and comfort are the two aspects of a mattress.
The one you have is now providing neither.
What you’re proposing will add comfort, without the support.
To do as you suggest, would require a quality latex topper. But, they’re expensive.
There are good quality mattresses that cost about the same.
Cheap latex lasts for only months and is a waste of money.
If buying some time is what you need to do, get a polyurethane foam mattress topper.
Flip your mattress over before adding the topper.
Poly foam is inexpensive and better than cheap Chinese made latex.
The flip side of the mattress will provide a better measure of support.
Doing this should buy you another year, or so, depending on body weight.
If you’d like to consider a new, good quality, reasonably priced mattress,
I recommend one of the Wolf Pocketed Coil/Latex Hybrids.
The Tulah is more comfortable than the Adara.
Both are very well made.
