Returning a Simmons Beautyrest Diamond Harmony Ultra Plush Mattress.

Maddie writes:
Hello Pete,

Backstory: I used to sleep on the Ritz Carlton mattress for 6 months in 2021.
I believe it was around 2-3 years old and a queen size.
My landlord let me use it while I rented the house, and I wish I could’ve taken it with me.
It was the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on in a long time.
My boyfriend would come over and say it was the most comfortable bed as well!

Fast forward to now, my boyfriend and I live together.
We wanted to try to get a bed as close as possible to the Ritz Carlton bed from a mattress store.
$4,000 was just too much for us. We tried the OkiOki for 3 months and it was AWFUL.
We returned it and ended up with a Simmons Beautyrest Diamond Harmony Ultra Plush Mattress.

I was hoping you could help us.
We are only able to exchange the bed for a mattress of equal ($2700) value or higher.
The bed just isn’t comfortable and we can’t figure out why.
We don’t wake up in pain necessarily either.
We do have an all over mattress protector on it and think that could be making it less comfy.
He’s a side sleeper around 185 and I’m a primary stomach and partial side sleeper around 140.
We’ve had the bed for 6 weeks and have only 50 days or so to exchange it.

My question for you is what would you recommend us to get instead?
We can only get an exchange it, otherwise I would totally purchase the Natura mattress you offer online.
We can’t afford to just toss or try to resell the mattress.
Should we exchange it for a different bed or try to break it in more?
Thank you, Maddie
Hi Maddie,

There are very few good mattresses available today.
All of the name brands have been sold…brands that you could once trust to make a quality product are now focused on profits instead of quality.
The thing that makes mattresses so bad and so profitable these days is memory foam…the worst upholstery material ever invented…a product that is specifically designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.
The comfort exchange policy that became popular when memory foam was introduced, is nothing more than the hook needed to sell poor quality products.
It lures you into a false sense of security, thinking you can’t make a mistake.
The problem is that most stores are a sea of mattresses, all upholstered with memory foam, so you can do nothing but make a mistake.
Go to your retailer and ask them to show you what mattresses they have that has no memory foam in them.
The only way to make a successful purchase is to avoid any mattress upholstered with memory foam.

(This advice comes in stark contrast to all the hype about memory foam, which is touted as the be all to end all…the best thing since sliced bread…all lies to enhance profits)

Thanks, Pete
