Hello Pete,
I saw your website and wanted to ask for your recommendation.
I know you probably hear the same stories repeatedly, but I am really at my wits end with purchasing mattresses and really need some help.
I have recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and have changing issues on almost a daily basis.
One day it may be shoulder pain when sleeping, next day it could be hip or elbow pain while lying down. I also have several lower back disks that are compressed and can be painful at times as well especially if the mattress hammocks. So I am looking for a mattress that is firm enough to not sag, but comfortable enough to not have pressure points and will keep its form for more than a few years.
I have purchased more than a few mattresses that were supposed to fit that bill.
They were all expensive and short lived. Most started sagging within 6 months.
I’m a large man, 6’2″ and weigh about 210 lbs.
I have been through at least 7 or 8 mattresses in the past 5 years and my wife jokingly says that I might have a problem… 🙂
I see that you most recommend the Natura Ultra plush and I just would like to know if there is a sinking in with this mattress or is it actually supportive with soft topping?
Thank you for your help and I really appreciate any recommendations you can offer.
I am looking for a Twin XL.
We have a King bed frame, but due to my changing of mattresses so often went to a dual Twin XL so that we could keep the costs down.
Sincerely, Bill
Good Morning Bill,
The problem you’ve been having thus far, is mattresses upholstered with memory foam…as almost all mattresses are, these days.
They simply don’t wear well, by design.
The problem you face is in finding a mattress that is strong enough to wear well under a large man, and be soft enough to address your RA.
There is no mattress that will do both jobs for any length of time.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress is as close as you’ll get, but it won’t be soft enough for your condition.
I recommend starting with that mattress.
My wife and I sleep on that mattress. We both weigh more than 200 lbs. and our mattress remains in like new condition after more than 7.5 years.
So, it will hold up to your satisfaction and be reasonably comfortable.
To achieve the degree of surface softness necessary for RA, add a synthetic down comforter…aka, down alternative.
Unlike real down, synthetic down doesn’t flatten out easily…keeping its loft longer.
When that comforter does wear out, it’ll be the only thing you’ll need to replace.
The mattress will still be like new.
There’s no memory foam in that mattress, which means no hammocking and no chemical off gassing.
Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.
