Unless you’re putting it on the floor, a mattress needs something to support it.
If not a steel frame and foundation, then a platform bed or adjustable bed base.
If your current foundation/box spring isn’t worn, then you don’t need to replace it.
When ordering that mattress, you can order it as a mattress only or as a set.
The set includes the foundation, but not the steel bed frame.
When buying the set, you can choose the height of the foundation…5” or 9”.
