Memory foam hybrid mattress is only 4 years old.

Karen writes:

Hi Pete,

My current mattress is only 4 yrs. old and a hybrid with memory foam over coils.
My back pain is killing me because it no longer supports me enough.
I am trying to decide whether I need a 2” or 3” mattress pillow cover.

Here are my other questions:
How can I be sure that it will stay on my bed without moving around during sleep?
What is the maximum depth of existing mattress to ensure that the corner sleeves fit?
What would each weigh?

Thanks for your help, Karen
Hi Karen,
Your questions are moot.
A topper is not for support. That’s the job of the mattress.
Your mattress has already failed because it’s upholstered with memory foam.
Adding a topper, at this point, is a waste of money.
Had you added a latex topper when the mattress was new, it would have prevented the premature wear.
It’s too late for that now.

You need a new mattress.

The Brolynn Old Fashioned Two Sided Mattress in Plush is my recommendation.
The coils are made of heavy gauge double tempered steel. It has  NO MEMORY FOAM.
The upholstery is natural plant based polyurethane foam.

You Should Know
Using an old box spring to support any new mattress will cause premature wear and void the manufacturer’s warranty.
A waterproof mattress protector will extend the life of a mattress by keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry.
